Senior Financial Accountant

We have a need for a high energy individual with strong technical and analytical skills to join Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s Finance team.­ The ideal candidate is expected to possess strong communication and interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment.
­
As a key member of the team you will be responsible for the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements as well as notes and supporting schedules.­ You will work with the finance team in the preparation of monthly financial reporting and detailed analysis to support management and regulatory requirements and reporting of financial and non-financial metrics to assist management in ensuring corporate goals and objective are met. ­­
­
This position will assess the on-going financial reporting process to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency and be responsible for identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement in the finance function.­ You will also be a key resource to complete accounting and finance projects in support of continuous improvement including internal control and other objectives of the Hydro Finance department.­ You should be proficient in analyzing accounting issues and applying accounting IFRS as you will assist in the research and documentation of accounting issues and future IFRS standards.
­
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and organizational skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment.­ You will be expected to exercise a significant level of initiative in planning, organizing and controlling work activity.­
­
Qualifications:

• ­Strong knowledge of IFRS and a minimum of five years of practical and progressively responsible experience in financial reporting including experience with preparation of IFRS compliant financial statements;
• A University Degree in business supplemented with a professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent experience;
• Highly organized and deadline driven, committed to delivering results;
• Ability to view the “big picture” and seek to understand;
• Excellent analytical skills, problem solving ability and a strong attention to detail;
• Excellent written and oral communications skills;
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment;
• General knowledge of regulated utility or other capital intensive industry would be considered an asset.
