Senior Financial Accountant

We have a need for a high energy individual with strong technical and analytical skills to join Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s Finance team. The ideal candidate is expected to possess strong communication and interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment.
As a key member of the team you will be responsible for the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements as well as notes and supporting schedules. You will work with the finance team in the preparation of monthly financial reporting and detailed analysis to support management and regulatory requirements and reporting of financial and non-financial metrics to assist management in ensuring corporate goals and objective are met.
This position will assess the on-going financial reporting process to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency and be responsible for identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement in the finance function. You will also be a key resource to complete accounting and finance projects in support of continuous improvement including internal control and other objectives of the Hydro Finance department. You should be proficient in analyzing accounting issues and applying accounting IFRS as you will assist in the research and documentation of accounting issues and future IFRS standards.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and organizational skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment. You will be expected to exercise a significant level of initiative in planning, organizing and controlling work activity.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and a minimum of five years of practical and progressively responsible experience in financial reporting including experience with preparation of IFRS compliant financial statements;
- A University Degree in business supplemented with a professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent experience;
- Highly organized and deadline driven, committed to delivering results;
- Ability to view the “big picture” and seek to understand;
- Excellent analytical skills, problem solving ability and a strong attention to detail;
- Excellent written and oral communications skills;
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment;
- General knowledge of regulated utility or other capital intensive industry would be considered an asset.
