Software Specialist – Operational Technology

In this role, you will be responsible for the detailed system analysis and design of complex highly available systems focused on our utility, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.­ Responsibility would include software development, testing, documentation, deployment, and maintenance of these complex systems.
­
You will play an integral role in the life cycle management of all software systems the OT Team is responsible for including hydrology, load forecasting, in-house developed applications, and third party systems.­ You will be responsible for coordinating problem resolution with software vendors and/or in-house personnel. You will develop design specifications and provide consultative guidance to project teams. You will evaluate performance of systems and recommend changes to increase operational effectiveness and enhanced security.­ You will perform root cause analysis of complex problems and must have the ability to triage system issues as encountered.­ You will be expected to participate in on on-call rotation.

Qualifications:
­
  • Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • A minimum of 7 years progressive system development experience in a utility/engineering environment, with emphasis on highly complex real-time multi-platform systems;
  • Must have excellent communication skills, solid analytical and organizational skills, and proven ability to meet deadlines and goals, with a strong commitment to customer service;
  • Must have the ability to learn new technologies quickly, work independently or within a team environment;
  • Must have sound knowledge of application development tools, frameworks and methodologies;
  • Competency in C, C++, C#, JavaScript, VB programming languages;
  • Experience with ASP.NET MVC and entity frameworks would be an asset;
  • Experience with the Microsoft software development stack;
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL, T-SQL, and relational database systems;
  • Experience with source code revision control systems;
  • Experience with IIS/Apache Web Services;
  • Familiarity with AVEVA PI Data Archive or data historians would be an asset;
  • Familiarity and understanding of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system architecture would be an asset;
  • Familiarity of Cyber Security utility industry best practices and standards.
