Civil Engineer

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is offering a challenging and exciting opportunity to join our team.­ Working in a creative, fast-paced environment, you will be part of transforming the future of the province's energy sector. Our long term Asset Management Plan includes an ambitious capital program to rebuild, renew, and replace significant portions of our installed asset base.
Responsibilities:
Working under the supervision of the Senior Manager - Transmission, Civil Engineering and Project Planning, the incumbent will exercise a significant level of personal initiative and judgment in carrying out assigned duties as they relate to design and construction.­
­
You will be responsible to provide ongoing technical support to the operating divisions to effectively manage and operate the Corporation’s resources in a safe, secure, efficient, customer-focused and environmentally responsible manner. Support work includes planning, performing studies, technical training, developing standards and tools, engineering support to both capital and operations initiative in a support function to the operations team. You will review and support developing capital budget applications, while coordinating with a multi-discipline team to perform estimates and technical justification proposals for all NL Hydro’s non-regulated infrastructure. You will also make recommendations to improve the Corporation’s performance of its key goals and targets.­
­
The incumbent will work within a team with a focus on technical engineering on varying hydro civil infrastructure including, power generation civil infrastructure, overland transmission infrastructure, access infrastructure, transition compounds, electrode sites, AC and DC switchyards, subsea cables, Synchronous condenser,­ etc. Travel within the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador will be required in this position.

Job Requirements:
­
To excel in this position you will need to bring the following:
­
  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Civil/Structural);
  • Eligibility for membership in Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL);
  • Proven and demonstrated communication skills;
  • Ability to thrive as a participant and/or leader within­ a multi-discipline team of both internal and external resources;
  • Experience in engineering projects estimate, development and project management techniques;
  • Ability to read and interpret, civil, structural, concrete and structural steel drawings;
  • Understanding of civil engineering design practices;
  • Experience with reviews of structural drawings identifying problems and resolutions;
  • Experience working with MS Office and MS Excel;
  • Experience managing and working with external engineering consultants is considered an asset;
  • Project management experience would be an asset;
  • Knowledge and familiarity with estimation software or geospatial information systems is considered an asset;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • You must possess a valid driver’s license.
