Controller Lower Churchill and Senior Manger Capital

In this senior leadership position you will report to the Vice President, CFO. You will be responsible for the controllership function of Lower Churchill and act as financial advisor to Lower Churchill management on all matters relating to financial reporting, accounting, internal control, and corporate requirements, with overall accountability to bring leadership to financial activities. You will ensure Lower Churchill’s financial reporting mechanisms are effective, controlled and consistent with best practices, and perform policy and process development in the areas of budgeting, forecasting, cost control and capital structure. You will support the corporate accounting function through an in-depth understanding of corporate practices, procedures, and requirements for budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, and ensure effective processes are in place to support these requirements. You will support the Lower Churchill leadership team and respective Boards of Directors by providing timely, reliable, and relevant financial information to support their governance of the corporations, partnerships and trusts. Familiarity with pertinent clauses of the Lower Churchill commercial agreements will also be required
. As part of your role you will also hold the same responsibilities for financial reporting and analysis related to the Other Electric operating segment.
You will also be responsible for capital asset accounting and reporting for the Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro Group. You will work with segment controllers to produce comprehensive analysis, reports and key information to manage, budget, forecast, and consolidate financial information related to capital assets. You will use your strong knowledge of IFRS to provide guidance to the capital team and conclude on technical accounting issues related to capital. You will oversees the accounting and reporting process necessary to ensure the provision of both IFRS and Regulatory accounting information is maintained.
You have strong oral and written communications skills, are a demonstrated team player and are able to foster strong relationships with your team and all levels of the organization. You have a high level of attention to detail and have excellent analytical and problem solving ability.
You will have graduated from a recognized university and have a Chartered Professional Accounting designation with a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in progressively responsible related accounting and finance functions. You will have a thorough knowledge of IFRS and external financial reporting practices. Knowledge and experience in the utility or other capital intensive industries is desirable including working knowledge of regulatory financial principles. Proficiency in computer based systems and Microsoft Office application is also required.
