Team Lead – Market Analysis and Load Forecasting

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Resource and Production Planning team. Leading the Market Analysis group and reporting to the Senior Manager Resource and Production Planning, you will guide analysis focused on the province’s internal electricity requirements and ability to participate in external market opportunities while ensuring the sustainable, reliable, and economic management of Hydro’s resources.

In this role you will:
  • Maintain a perspective on the electricity requirements of the province, including the potential impacts of electrification initiatives and programs, to help ensure delivery of economic, safe and environmentally responsible electricity for Hydro’s customers and make recommendations on the same;
  • Help determine how existing and potential commercial commitments fit within Hydro’s reliability requirements and production capabilities;
  • Lead the preparation of Hydro's near- and long-term load forecasts to support planning and regulatory requirements and manage the execution of quantitative statistical and economic analyses to support further development of Hydro's load forecast models.
  • Manage the preparation and analysis of production forecasts for budgetary and regulatory filings and to help identify trends and opportunities for further optimization of Hydro’s production;
  • Supervise and direct the activities of the Market Analysis group;
  • Work cross departmentally with all levels of the organization to ensure security of economic electricity supply for Hydro’s customers;
  • Collaborate to build effective work processes that ensure the optimization of provincial resources; and
  • Be accountable for the documentation and accuracy of production data and associated financial analysis.

A post-secondary degree in business, engineering, economics, or applied sciences from an accredited university program combined with a minimum of 12 years work experience is required. A Professional Accounting Designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA) or Master’s degree would be considered an asset. A strong background in financial analysis, combined with knowledge of the Provincial economy, the electric power sector, and external markets would be an asset. Applicants should have excellent analytical skills and be comfortable developing and articulating positions on complex matters for internal and external stakeholders. Other combinations of qualifications and related experience may be considered.
