Diesel System Representative Trainee (Temporary Relief)

Location: Mary’s Harbour

You will function as the controlling authority for the isolated diesel plant. You will review and request work to be performed on the isolated diesel plant and distribution systems. You will provide isolation for work crews as required in order to guarantee safety. You will operate diesel powered generators, including starting engines and adjusting controls for desired operating speed; check temperature and pressure gauges to ensure proper functioning of lubrication and cooling systems; monitor the operation and output; lubricate bearings and mechanical parts, make minor adjustments and perform normal housekeeping duties. You will be responsible for all record keeping and overall responsibility for the plant. You will performs basic limited line and electrical/mechanical repairs to plant equipment. You will be responsible for customer service functions such as meter reading, meter removal, accounts receivable, collections and all associated paperwork. You will be responsible for all other duties related to or associated with this classification.

You are responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and promoting the Corporation's Safety and Health Program. You are responsible for any environmental aspects of the job and performing work in an environmentally responsible manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduation supplemented by completion of entry-level courses in the electrical, heavy-duty repair, power engineering or marine diesel and a minimum of one year experience working in a utility environment or interprovincial journeyperson certification as a powerline technician, industrial electrician or heavy duty equipment technician.

The successful applicant shall have a thorough knowledge of all regulations and safety rules. They may be required to possess an appropriate valid driver’s license. Successful applicants will be required to complete the Corporation’s DSR Training Program with progression contingent upon satisfactory completion of the assigned components of the training program.
