Senior Manager, System Operations and Integration Support

This role will provide leadership in the development and negotiation of commercial agreements related to the sale of power and energy from the Lower Churchill development and required transmission interconnection agreements and also in all areas of power system integration required for the introduction of new assets to the bulk electric system in the province with special focus on operational aspects. You will provide significant input to the development and execution of plans to meet the corporation’s goals in the areas of power system operation.

The position will be a senior representative of the corporation in power system interconnection arrangements with neighbouring power systems and lead negotiations in the development of interconnection agreements. You will supervise and provide guidance and direction to department staff in such areas as formulation of guidelines, procedures and operating practices to ensure the efficient and economic operation of the transmission system while meeting firm power requirements at all times, operation of the grid (transmission and terminals) to ensure the most economical and reliable energy transfer, as well as measuring and reporting on the performance of the transmission system and its equipment including areas of reliability and efficiency.

You will be responsible for integration support and commercial arrangements providing technical leadership in the area of transmission operations for legal agreements for the Lower Churchill and Hydro and will negotiate with third parties on long term contracts for the sale or purchase of capacity and energy. You will lead organizational design changes to affect efficient operation on new and modified assets. You will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance for both reliability standards and transmission open access.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 20 years of progressively responsible experience in the electric utility industry including 5 years at the management level;
  • Eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL);
  • A proven ability to provide leadership and accept responsibility in a highly technical environment;
  • Ability to appear in public hearings representing the corporation in various matters;
  • Ability to represent the corporation in interactions with senior representatives of transmission customers and neighbouring utilities;
  • Willingness to perform rigid standby duties on a rotational basis.
