Senior Supervisor – Budgeting and Forecasting (Temporary)

Reporting to the Team Lead, Budgeting and Forecasting, you will be responsible for planning, managing and executing all aspects of budgeting and forecasting. The budgeting and forecasting cycle for Hydro is an integral process the output of which forms part of the evidence used in General Rate Applications. Specifically, you will be responsible for supervising and providing leadership to the forecasting and budgeting team, as well as reviewing, analyzing and approving all work for this team in a timely and effective manner.­ You will be accountable for setting timelines and processes for the budget and forecasting cycles and for analyzing relevant data and ensuring high quality, timely information is available to the Finance and Leadership team on a monthly basis.­ Critical aspects of the role include the ability to complete and deliver, through your team, a detailed and in-depth, meaningful variance analysis to provide information to the leadership team and the ability to provide support for estimates and projections for various stakeholders. Preparation of presentations and the ability to synthesize information is key.­­ You will be also responsible for various management reports, consisting of both key financial and non-financial performance metrics, as well as cost control data. The ability to identify opportunities for process improvements, solutions development and leading implementation is also required.
­
The ideal candidate is expected to have proven supervisory experience, strong analytical and managerial skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment.­ You will be expected to exercise a significant level of initiative in planning, organizing and controlling work activity, handling decisions without specific direction, and directing activities of the forecasting and budgeting team.­ The Senior Supervisor will require a significant amount of personal resourcefulness and imagination to resolve issues, and provide recommendations for a path forward in a timely manner.­ ­­

As the successful candidate you will take a lead role in continuous improvement to evolve the budget and forecast processes to better achieve Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s corporate goals and objectives. An excellent knowledge of Excel and experience with performance management software are key success factors in this role.
­
Qualifications:
  • A University Degree in Commerce or Business Administration and a recognized accounting designation (CA,CGA, CMA) or equivalent experience;
  • A minimum of five years experience in budgeting and forecasting;
  • Appropriate working knowledge of GAAP / IFRS;
  • Proven supervisory experience;
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem solving abilities;
  • Strong, team based, interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with members the finance team;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in fast paced, deadline driven environment, while dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information;
  • Strong excel skills;
  • Experience working with Clarity and JD Edwards software systems would be beneficial.
