Menihek Plant Engineer – Electrical

You will be responsible for providing electrical engineering support to the Menihek Generating Station and Plant Operations team. This will require a holistic knowledge and understanding of plant electrical systems such as exciters, AVRs, generators, gate motors and controls, plant auxiliary systems, pump systems, distribution systems, transmission systems, transformers, protection and control, and communication systems. You must have existing expertise and knowledge of these systems, and be willing to further develop that expertise. Additionally, you will be responsible to engage consultants and contractors where necessary to develop and manage the long term asset plan. You will provide electrical engineering and project management support for small scale engineering projects.
You will be expected to comply with all aspects of the Menihek Generating Station Environmental Management System including policy and guiding principles, environmental aspects, legal and other requirements, objectives, targets and programs, standard operating procedures and Environmental Emergency Response Plan.
You have highly developed interpersonal, open and respectful communications skills. You possess the ability to build and implement long term asset plans through good interpretation of plant needs, project estimating, project scheduling, and risk analysis.
You have graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and are, or eligible to be, a registered member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) with a minimum of five (5) years of experience. Education relating to physical asset management and technical knowledge of plant systems would be considered assets. Please note this position will require regular travel to the Menihek plant, about 200km north of Labrador City, NL. You must possess a valid driver’s license.
