Information Security Administrator – Information Systems

Job Requirements:
Reporting to the Information Security Officer, the primary focus of the Information Security Administrator is to assist the team in safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity and availability of corporate information and information technology resources, including but not limited to, information assets, applications, endpoints, servers, networks, and supporting infrastructure. This position requires knowledge of foundational security principles and is accountable for day-to-day security operations, maintenance of cybersecurity systems and ensuring information assets are adequately protected.

Responsibilities:
The Information Security Administrator principal duties and responsibilities are as follows:
­
  • Ticket queue management and security event triage;
  • Monitoring and maintenance of cybersecurity systems and agents;
  • As a member of the Incident Response Team, respond to and where appropriate, assist in resolving security incidents;
  • Collate security incident or event data to produce periodic reports;
  • Communicate effectively with system administrators and developers for security needs;
  • Maintenance of the cybersecurity risk register;
  • Creation and/or maintenance of cybersecurity documentation, process and procedures;
  • Perform vulnerability management activities and coordinate remediation and mitigation efforts;
  • Communicate cybersecurity awareness, policies and security best practice;
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

The successful applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.­ A minimum of 1 year direct cybersecurity experience is required, with experience in other information technology areas such as system administration, patch management, networking and application support, being an asset.­ Security Professional certification such as CISA, CISSP, GSEC, CompTIA Security+, ECSA, SSCP or equivalent information security credentials would also be an asset.
­
The Information Security Administrator position requires a hands-on, dynamic person with a special blend of technical computer security knowledge, business and communication skills.­ The successful candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills, ability to work in a team environment, and have:
­
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • High level of personal integrity, and the ability to professionally handle confidential matters;
  • Knowledge of security principles such as, least privilege, separation of duties, defense-in-depth;
  • Knowledge of NIST Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity, Computer Security
    Incident Handling Guide and Security and Privacy Controls for Information Systems and Organizations;
  • Knowledge of network security architecture, TCP/IP stack;
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft client and server products.

Mandatory Vaccination Policy
On October 15, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador announced the details of the mandatory vaccination policy that applies to public service employees including those in Crown Corporations such as NL Hydro.
Under the new policy, all provincial government employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or have an approved medical exemption by December 17, 2021. A person is considered fully vaccinated when two weeks has passed since their second vaccination (or first in the case of one-dose vaccines).
Failing to comply with this requirement (including requested but not approved policy exemption) will result in the job offer being revoked.
