Location: St. John’s Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, a Nalcor Energy company is an employer of choice within the energy sector. The Project Execution and Technical Services Division are focused on providing quality project management and engineering design services and engineering support to the companies within Nalcor Energy. The long term plan is to execute an ambitious capital program to replace and renew aging assets and to add new assets. One component of this program involves the addition, replacement and renewal of communications systems. We currently have an opening in the Protection, Control & Communications Engineering (PCC) Department for a Communications Engineer. You will bring experience in communications systems to the team and contribute fully in the project outcomes. You will work as a technical member of a project team. Your technical skills and experience combined with excellent written and verbal skills will allow you to make significant contributions to the project. Responsibilities: You will join a multi-discipline team working in a matrix organization to design and implement modern communications and SCADA systems. This include a very wide range of technologies including fiber optics, microwave radio, VHF radio, UHF radio, RTUs, IED interfacing, routers, switches, power line carrier, DC power systems, PBX, voice circuits and other systems. This position supports technical and project execution activities including: Preparation of system designs; Network architecture design; Selection and procurement of equipment and systems; Involvement in preparing project estimates, schedules, resource requirements; Preparation of equipment configurations and settings; Communication analysis as it relates to performance; Ability to assess new technologies and determine the correct solution; Interfacing with P&C engineers and others with substation automation projects. Job Requirements: To excel in this position you will need to bring the following: Relevant experience in the design, implementation and troubleshooting of communications equipment and systems; Experience in the configuration of communications equipment; Experience in network architecture design; Experience in preparing specifications, drawings and wiring diagrams; Experience in supervising equipment installation and commissioning; Experience in selecting, setting and troubleshooting communications equipment; Experience in preparing project estimates; A working knowledge of SCADA, TCP/IP and protection protocols and related test equipment; Effective written and verbal skills; Ability to work with and/or lead a multi-discipline team of both internal and external resources; Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Electrical) with 5 years experience preferably with an electric utility; Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL); Demonstrated experience within a team environment; You must possess and maintain an appropriate valid driver’s license; Travel will be required.
