Surveyor

Location: St. John’s

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is seeking a Professional Licensed Land Surveyor to join the Properties Department in the Engineering Services Division. The Properties Department’s role is to collect survey data in support of NL Hydro’s capital and operating work.

You will prepare documents for the conveyance of land titles, right of way easements, leases and fee title deeds between Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and both the private and public sector in compliance with the Association of Newfoundland Surveyors Act.

You must have expertise in acquiring, processing, analyzing as well as compiling data so as to prepare precise and accurate maps, drawings and legal surveys for legal and properties personnel, project teams or field crews. You will acquire land for NL Hydro as required. You will perform various types of field and office related duties including legal surveys, title searches, property boundary and location surveys, as-built surveys, dams monitoring and deformations surveys, topographic surveys, staking of new powerlines, GPS surveys and line routing and infrastructure location surveys, etc. You must be able to prepare maps, plans or legal drawings or descriptions of the same. You will use these tools to reply to requests for information on NL Hydro’s properties or to respond to referral agencies.

You will be required to provide engineering support as requested and be cognizant of deadlines. Prepare Requests for Proposals for outside surveying consulting services, evaluate proposals and recommend award. Direct activities of outside consultants to ensure services are delivered according to contract requirements.

You must perform the surveys in an efficient and cost effective manner. You must be able to communicate effectively with lawyers, supervisors, project managers, co-workers and clients on a daily basis. You are responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and promoting the company's Safety and Health Program, performing all job tasks in a safe manner and embracing the safety culture of Hydro. You are responsible for any environmental aspects of the job and performing work in an environmentally responsible manner.

Qualifications:
­
  • A Licensed Land Surveyor in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador and registered with the Association of Newfoundland Land Surveyors; or eligible to become a registered licensed surveyor with the Association of Newfoundland Land Surveyors within 6 month of start date of employment.
  • Experience in GPS and high precision total station surveying as well as the use of Microsurvey CAD, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office;
  • Knowledge in the area of legal surveys, title searches, topographic surveys, compiling property boundary and location surveys, as-built surveys, infrastructure location surveys;
  • Five (5) years progressively responsible work experience;
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem solving abilities;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Extensive travel will be required;
  • Must possess an appropriate valid driver’s license
