Mechanical Engineer Competition #: NLH-12-101 Location: St. John’s Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, a Nalcor Energy company is offering a challenging and exciting opportunity to join our team. The Project Execution and Technical Services Division is focused on providing quality project management, engineering design services, and engineering support to the five lines of business within Nalcor Energy. Our long term Asset Management Plan includes an ambitious capital program to rebuild, renew, and replace portions of our installed asset base. One important component of the program involves the replacement, renewal and addition of mechanical systems. We currently have an opening in the Mechanical Engineering Department for an experienced Mechanical Engineer. You will bring experience in mechanical systems to the team and contribute fully in the project outcomes. You work equally well as a technical member of the team or guiding other members. Your technical skills and experience combined with excellent oral and written communication skills, and project management skills, will allow you to make significant contributions to the project deliverables. Responsibilities: You will join a multi-discipline team working in a matrix organization to design and implement modern mechanical systems. This position primarily supports technical service activities including: Preparation of project proposals (capital & operating) Preparation of engineering reports Operations support; equipment trouble shooting/investigation and providing solutions Mechanical system designs and tender preparation Preparation of project estimates, schedules and resource requirements Ability to assess new technologies and determine the optimum solution for mechanical problems Project management Job Requirements: To excel in this position you will need to bring the following: Proven and demonstrated verbal and writing communication skills Ability to thrive as a participant and/or leader within a multi-discipline team of both internal and external resources Relevant experience in the design, implementation and troubleshooting of mechanical systems in general with emphasis on gas turbine, diesel and thermal generation plants in a utility environment. Experience in supervising equipment installations and commissioning Experience in preparing project estimates Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Mechanical) with 10 years experience since graduation. Member in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) Project management experience or certification Experience working with MS Office CLOSING DATE: December 7, 2012
