• Awarded two contracts for the development of 54 MW of wind power on the island.
  • Secured three million dollars from the Atlantic Innovation Fund towards a five-year, $10 million innovative research and development project for an isolated wind-hydrogen-diesel generation solution in Ramea.
  • Offered double rebates from July to November through the HYDROWISE Wrap Up for Savings Program for insulation upgrades in electrically-heated homes.
  • Partnered with government, Newfoundland Power and municipalities on energy conservation initiatives that have the potential to save over one million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
  • Held public open houses in Labrador on the proposed Lower Churchill Project as part of the environmental assessment process.
  • Completed a three-year program to remove all friable asbestos from the Holyrood Generating Station at a total cost of approximately $3.6 million.
  • Continued to partner with the Newfoundland and Labrador Conservation Corps by sponsoring Green Teams in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Whitbourne.
  • Continued to take action on the nine recommendations made in the 2006 Human Health Risk Assessment of Air Emissions from the Holyrood Generating Station.
  • Completed a surface soil sampling program on over 50 sites in the vicinity of the Holyrood plant.
  • Completed the fourth compensation monitoring report for the Granite Canal Fish Habitat Compensation Facility. Results indicate spawning densities were positive and over 1,640 potential redds (highest recorded to date) were observed in the compensation facility.
  • Assessed all structures on the distribution lines, access routes and private property from Bear Cove to Eddies Cove for the presence of rare plant species.
  • Commissioned a new bulk fuel monitoring system at the Cat Arm Hydroelectric Generating Station.
  • Expanded the promotion of idle-free zones on company property to an additional five company buildings in 2007.
  • Designed a central composting facility for CF(L)Co, to be constructed in 2009.
  • Completed the first of a five-year clean up program of five dump sites the Twin Falls and Churchill Falls’ areas.
  • Tested over 719 transformers for Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) contamination as part of Transmission and Rural Operation’s (TRO’s) PCB Reduction Program.
  • Removed approximately 165 distribution transformers from service as part of TRO’s Spills Management Program.
